The Fortnite virtual game concert broke records as Travis Scott performed for over 12 million viewers. Some are speculating if it’s the dawn of the era of online concerts.
Fortnite’s Astronomical event hosted by Travis Scott was tuned in by over 12 million viewers when it was first aired last April 23. It has set a new record for most players in a game.
This overshadowed Fortnite’s last in-game concert featuring Marshmello which only brought 10 million players in February.
Developer and rapper team up
Scott’s performance was basically an interactive music video utilized to debut his new song The Scotts featuring fellow rapper Kid Cudi. Travis Scott’s live concerts usually involved amusement park rides. However, in the game, Scott focused on the psychedelic part of his music.
The concert only lasted for 10 minutes but players were consistently amused, teleported throughout the Fortnite map while watching a huge holographic version of Scott. His virtual self also featured a cyborg transformation which stomped its way across an interactive scene performing his hit songs “Sicko Mode” and “Goosebumps.”

The new normal
Not only did this event break records, but it also proved a new way of experiencing music. This collaboration brought a majestic musical experience to all gamers and was also for free.
The concert did not require traveling or buying a ticket, just downloading the free game and logging online was enough. The show took the viewers to an eye-popping world where they joined Scott through a musical journey.
Whether players will see such events from Fortnite or other games, the Astronomical event has set a new standard of making virtual concerts that gamers have never experienced before. This could be a step forward to achieving a safe yet deeply engaging musical experience for everyone.
What’s next for Fortnite
Players and celebrities who have watched the concert said that the Astronomical event was a massive achievement. They have described the concert as something which can only happen in a video game.
However, Fortnite developers have not even started imagining what the game is capable of yet. The developers promised this is just the start of virtual concerts and promised that they are committed to defying all expectations.
