Normal People is the latest romantic TV series making headlines on the Internet. It’s based on the eponymous novel by Sally Rooney.
Ever since Normal People aired on BBC iPlayer, the novel’s main characters Connell Waldron and Marianne Sheridan have acquired more extra fans.
The love story of two Irish youngsters was first known through the published book in 2018. It became a best-seller book in the U.S. and sold almost 64,000 copies in hardcover in just four months.

When it garnered massive popularity from readers, Hulu and BBC Three wasted no time in turning it into a 12-episode TV series. The series is directed by Lenny Abrahamson (Room) and Hettie MacDonald (Doctor Who). The main casts are Daisy Edgar-Jones as Marianne and Paul Mescal as Connell.
Is there a second season?
Normal People only comes with 12 episodes so binge-watching it will finish it in just a day. However, the ending is a total cliffhanger so now fans are wondering if there’s going to be a season 2.
According to Screen Rant, there is no official announcement yet on a series renewal. The show dropped just this April so it’s still too early to tell if it garnered good viewership.
The production company, Element Pictures, may still be on the stage of assessing the streaming numbers.
Also, the novel in which the show is adapted from is a single one-and-done story. There is no part two from Rooney which means that there isn’t any available material anymore to base on.

This could mean that season 2 isn’t coming anytime soon unless Rooney writes a sequel or she will approve a TV storyline continuation.
Director Abrahamson told Radio Times that a season 2 is possible but he is thinking of a long wait for it.
“I have a fantasy of doing a kind of ten year seeing where they are in ten years time sort of thing, if I’m not too decrepit at that point,” he said.
The source also revealed that should there be a follow-up to series one, the lead actors are willing to reprise their roles.
Story plot
The novel follows the on-again, off-again relationship of Marianne and Connell. They first met when they were just in high school. Since then they have shared a magnetic connection.
It always leaves them longing for each other even after separating ways and ending up in relationships with other people.
In the final episode, it showed the two of them still contemplating with their love for each other. Connell had been offered a good job overseas. Marianne encourages him to take it despite the pain of being apart.
The ending is a complete reflection of the one in the book. There are unanswered questions and fans are looking for more.
Normal People is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
