Kate Middleton waited for almost a decade for Prince William’s proposal.

Prince William didn’t think of marrying Kate Middleton for years. In fact, at one point, the Duke of Cambridge thought Prince Harry would tie the knot ahead of him.

The Duke of Cambridge was in no rush to marry Kate Middleton

Prince William and Kate Middleton dated for almost 10 years before he popped the big question. According to royal experts, he took his time. In fact, he dodged the idea of marrying Middleton for years.

In the book The Making of a Royal Romance, Katie Nicholl shared how Prince William rejected the idea of marrying Middleton.

When he was only 22 years old, there were rumors that he would be settling down with his then-girlfriend. However, Prince William just laughed it off.

“Look, I’m only 22 for God’s sake. I’m too young to marry at my age. I don’t want to get married until I am at least 28 or maybe 30,” he said.

At one point, Prince William said that his younger brother, Prince Harry, might get married ahead of him. The future king’s statement might have hurt Middleton, but she was so good at hiding the pain.

“If it hurt Kate when William hinted that his younger brother Harry was more likely to tie the knot before they would, she didn’t show it,” Nicholl added.

Prince William witnessed the unhappy marriage of his parents Prince Charles and Princess Diana. He knew that Prince Charles was only pressured to marrying Princess Diana because she was the perfect royal bride.

Prince Harry’s brother vowed to never allow anyone to pressure him. That was why he took his time to propose to Middleton.

Kate Middleton dubbed “Waity Katie”

Kate Middleton was fine with the long wait and didn’t rush Prince William to marry her. However, some used it to mock the future queen consort.

In an interview with CBS News in 2009, Nicholl said Middleton had always been a model of what a royal princess should be. The Duchess of Cambridge is patient and loyal. Also, when Prince William needed time, she gave it to him.

“She’s been exemplary, but ‘Waity Katie’ has stuck, and it’s a nickname that she absolutely despises,” Nicholl added.
