Two of the most affordable phones from Apple and Google, the iPhone SE 2020 and Pixel 3a, finally get seated against each other. Which one is for you?
With the Google Pixel 4a now en route to being unveiled, Apple’s newly-minted iPhone SE 2020 remains to be unchallenged unless you take into the equation Google’s current mid-range smartphone king, the Pixel 3a.
In the battle of the most affordable key smartphones in the industry, we now seat the A13 Bionic chip-toting iPhone SE and Google’s Pixel 3a in a showdown. Will the slightly old Pixel 3a fare on par with the Apple’s newest budget-friendly iPhone craze?
Let’s find out.
Display and design
Both the new iPhone SE and Google Pixel 3a employ what appears to be the industry’s traditional smartphone look. The phones both feature top and bottom bezels, with a single camera module on their rear panels.
If you’re on the hunt for a bigger phone, the Pixel 3a is a no-brainer. The iPhone SE 2020’s more compact size is simply an altogether different type of appeal.
iPhone SE 2020 and Google Pixel 3a: Performance
It is in the performance department in which the new iPhone SE trumps the Google Pixel 3a without any convincing. The former is powered by Apple’s latest A13 Bionic chip, which is among the most efficient SoC at the moment.
The Google Pixel 3a, on the other hand, is fueled by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 670 chipset. Nevertheless, the phone’s 3,000mAh battery is still better on paper over the new iPhone SE’s 1,821mAh capacity.
However, the Google Pixel 3a doesn’t support wireless charging.
Cameras
Both the iPhone SE 2020 and Google Pixel 3a feature similar rear and front camera configurations. Perhaps the only difference between the two is how Google and Apple configured their algorithms.
Other key specifications and pricing
Both phones are equally laden with key miscellaneous features, ones that should divide the onlookers. While the iPhone SE 2020 sports Apple’s Touch ID button, the Google Pixel 3a comes with a mounted fingerprint reader on its rear.
The new iPhone SE also features Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and USB 2.0. The Google Pixel 3a boasts the same, but with the much-needed 3.5mm headphone jack. For iPhone SE 2020 users, you’re going to have to rely on Bluetooth-enabled headsets.
Although the new iPhone SE is Apple’s cheapest offering to date, the Google Pixel 3a still manages to outperform it with a slightly reduced pricing.
Conclusion
There’s no telling which of the iPhone SE 2020 and Google Pixel 3a is the better performer. While Apple’s latest is a powerhouse in the performance segment, the latter also comes with vital features its current counterpart lacks.
