The highly-anticipated romantic drama series, Virgin River season 2 is confirmed to return to Netflix. However, the release date is still vague.

After a successful season 1, the series was immediately renewed for the second season.  The show which initially aired in December 2019 became an instant sellout. Virgin River season 1 ended with a cliffhanger episode, and fans are now looking forward to season 2.

The story follows the newly transferred nurse, Mel Monroe in a rural town of Virgin River. Although the town is far from the city life that Mel is used to, it was a needed escape for Mel.  It appears that Mel is looking for a fresh start.

Virgin River season 2 release date

Although the series has been renewed early on, Netflix is still silent on the release date.  Some reports are suggesting that the filming was already finished before the lockdown was enforced. Hence, Virgin River season 2 might be expected to return to the home screens in summer 2020.

Furthermore, the filming wrapped up in December 2019. However, the showrunners are still silent on the release date. The author behind the series, Robyn Carr is also excited of being part of the series. She said,

“It’s so exciting to be a part of the romance genre movement taking place in Hollywood” adding “I’ve been telling my readers to think of it as a brand new ‘Virgin River’ adventure with your favorite characters.”.

Virgin River season 2 plot

The cliffhanger finale has left the fans thinking of what might be coming in season 2. Similar to the first season, Virgin River season 2 will also contain 10 episodes.  There were so many thrilling revelations at the finale of season 1. And fans can’t help but explore the possible plots.

In season 1, Mel found out that Jack is becoming a father with Rose’s baby. Mel realized that her decision to stay in Virgin River is a mistake. She later decided to move back to the city.

Jack and Hope might not be able to mend their relationship due to Hope’s constant minding of other people’s business. Dr. Mullins is now decided to divorce Hope which was initially fueled by Hope.

Hence, season 2 plot will likely center on Jack and Mel to work out their relationship while  Jack’s baby is on the way. Another plot to explore is about the divorce that Hope is waiting for years. However, at the end of season 1, she seemingly regretted her decision.

Fans will also look at what will happen to Paige Lassiter in season 2. In the previous season, John Middleton went to Paige’s house, however, the mother and son were not there. Furthermore, a trickle of blood was found on the floor which presumably led to the basement.

Virgin River season 2 will also add more drama to Mel’s life as her sister-in-law, Staci will be coming to town.

Carr is also optimistic about the result of the production. She said,

“They came up with some new ideas and storylines, some of which I found myself saying, ‘Damn, I wish I’d thought about that. That’s a pretty good angle, it’s innovative.’” With over 20 books in the romantic series, we’re guessing that the Netflix series has plenty of material to work with!”
