Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 cleared for ECG monitoring. This comes after the device got approved for monitoring BP.
Samsung officially announced that the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 received its second health clearance. The Samsung smartwatch can now be used for ECG function.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 for ECG monitoring function
South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) issued the clearance for the Samsung Health Monitor. The said function is a Galaxy Watch Active 2 feature designed to monitor a user’s ECG.
The EC sensor detects and identifies any heart rhythm inconsistency that may arise. Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) is just one of the many specific abnormalities that the sensor analyzes.
Detecting the onset of Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) could save the user from the risks of complications. The said ailment is known as responsible for the blood clots and even one of the leading causes of strokes.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 for blood pressure levels
Last month Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 just received clearance from MFDS. The clearance was also given for its Samsung Health Monitor Function.
MFDS recognized the Watch Active’s capability to monitor a users’ blood pressure. The ministry also acknowledged the accuracy of the reading gathered from the device.
Along with the clearance issuance, MFDS also gave Samsung smartwatch the Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) classification. This means that the device can be used as a medicine for blood pressure levels monitoring.
Now the market may categorize the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 as a cuff-less device for blood pressure levels monitoring. It is also classified as a government cleared product as it received the approval from the ministry.
Reports say that the Samsung smartwatch monitors the heart rate sensors. It then measures the number of changes that take place on the blood flow that serves as a reference in monitoring the patient’s blood pressure level.
Samsung however reminded the users to have their actual blood pressure level taken from a certified medical tool. The user will key in the result to the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 Health Monitor Function.
Samsung calls the process of acquiring the blood pressure and ECG data from an external device as calibration. To ensure the accuracy of reading and results, users must perform the calibration every four weeks.
The Korean tech giant also reminded the public that only Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 is compatible with the Samsung Health Monitor Function. However, the upcoming smartwatches may also give provision for the feature.
