Epic Games has been busy with its back-to-back events and announcements, despite the pandemic disrupting its office setup. Recently, the gaming giant declares expansion to mobile devices.
Epic Games continue to make headlines, following the launch of Mega Sale, which will end this June 11. The gaming giant’s sale event caused quite the commotion after launching the free game giveaway that refreshes every Thursday.
This led to an epic 8-hour server downtown. With thousands of players attempted to avail of its free GTA 5 giveaway prompting the Mega Sale launch. They are expected to close out the event with a bang as it gives out Samurai Shodown NeoGeo Collection to its avid supporters.

Fortnite makers’ expansion to mobile stores
The announcement came during the GameSpot interview with the Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney. The guesting was part of the media outlet’s “Play For All” summer gaming event, that happened early this June.
He talked about the success of the Epic Games Store and its goal to bring the launcher to the mobile devices.
Readers should note that in past months, Epic has released Fortnite on Google Play Store. It took a while before the makers finally gave in to Google Play’s terms, after a while of attempting to distribute the Battle Royale game on mobile independently.

In May, Epic announced its partnership with OnePlus in releasing a 90FPS gaming experience for Fortnite in OnePlus 8 series. All these moves already give out obvious hints of its mobile expansion.
During the interview, Sweeney explained:
“We’d like to bring the [Epic Games] Store to iOS in the future, and we will bring it to Android. We think it’s a good way to help the industry [move] forward and it’s another way where Epic as a game developer had built up this audience around Fortnite and learned how to operate a distribution platform on PC and Android.”
He then further revealed:
“Now, as we’ve done with many things from the Unreal Engine to the Epic Online services, we open it up to all other developers to use with their games and are trying to serve the industry and provide a really interesting alternative to the ecosystem.”
Epic Game Store launcher expansion has an indefinite time frame
While the mobile expansion sounds great to hear, Sweeney didn’t exactly give GameSpot a definite timeframe as to when this mobile expansion is expected to arrive.
According to the media outlet, Sweeney already discussed bring the EGS launcher to the mobile platform with Game Informer during a 2018 interview. The goal was supposedly to bring its digital distributor to “PC and Mac in 2018, and Android later in 2019.”
TechRadar did say that Apple’s and Google’s “established security policies” may hinder Sweeney’s idea. Nevertheless, expanding to the mobile platform is indeed favorable to the gaming community.
