Around 2:45pm Christmas afternoon my brother got a phishing text regarding Coinbase, distractedly fell for it by calling the number, and immediately got his entire account hacked. Funds aren’t coming back. Didn’t have Google Authenticator 2FA active. Only SMS based 2FA.
2 years of his savings from DCA’ing $100 every Thursday into BTC & ETH transferred to somebody else. Over half his overall savings.
I experienced this with him or at least was in the room with him as this kick to the gut first hit. He was significantly calmer and more collected than I would have ever been. It was incredible and what this post is actually about…absolute respect for how he reacted and took it. He’s already determined to learn more about crypto security and left for work bartending a a shift that starts 9:30pm Christmas night to begin the rebuild.
How he acted will hopefully stick with me.
