Known for its strict constraints towards video games, Australia’s Classification Board has given CD Projekt Red’s developing title, Cyberpunk 2077, a green light as an Adult-only game.

The Classification Board is always hard at work when it comes to spotting games of certain specific themes. Mature or higher rated games even of special concerns.

The organization is so restrictive, a satirical game South Park: The Stick of Truth previously saw difficult approval to entering the Australian market. The issue draws from the sensitive portrayal of cartoonish private parts in a scene where humans are probed by aliens.

Although fans of the animated TV series will see no surprise in such imagery, Australia’s Classification Board were not having any.

For Adults Only

Featuring themes involving sex, violence, and sexual violence, Cyberpunk 2077 was given an R18+ rating. This means that, if adhered to, buyers can only acquire and subsequently play the game when at an appropriate age.

The R18+ rating can be very restrictive. Looking into the details, it also prohibits even the viewing of Adult-only contents.

However, unlike the publishers behind games like State of Decay and Saint’s Row IV, CD Projekt Red did not dispute the rating. Arising from the disagreement, these two games, however, did not see approval. Pushing them to make a re-submission and edits.

On their front, CD Projekt Red seems to anticipate the rating, rather than deny the reality of the game they are building. Instead of fighting the board’s stiff requirements, the game developer claimed to make needed adjustments for the Australian audiences.

Cyberpunk 2077’s rating in Australia is established, in fact, that the official label for the game already has the R18+ logo on it.

A Gaming Company Catered for Adult Players

Known for developing games with mature content in it, CD Projekt Red is not a stranger to a limited audience. The Witcher 3, the game that gave the company much success and limelight is proof of the idea.

Admittedly, CD Projekt Red appears to have concerns whether or not Cyberpunk 2077 gets approval in Australia. Aside from the violence, the sex, and the combination of both, the game also depicts drugs.

While the game may have drugs in it as a motif, Cyberpunk 2077 appears to discourage its use by not rewarding players who employ thematic drugs in-game.

Cyberpunk 2077 is slated for release on September 17, 2020, to Stadia, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
