The Future of Gaming has some surprising reveals, but perhaps none really caught players more off-guard that Resident Evil 8. The next chapter in the survival horror franchise is coming to the next generation of consoles, and fans couldn’t be more excited.

Rumors about a new Resident Evil started circulating early this year. This is why it’s a surprise that Capcom unveiled Resident Evil 8 so quickly during The Future of Gaming conference. Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming title.

Release date

The game isn’t going to be a launch title for the PS5. The good news though, is that it will be available sometime next year. Players don’t have to wait too long anymore. The wait is just about right, considering Resident Evil 7 released way back in 2017.

What’s next?

Capcom did say earlier this year that the next iteration of the franchise will be its biggest step away from what fans have been used to. Based on the trailer, that may very well be the case. Although the trailer itself is pretty mysterious and even cryptic, there are several things that we got from it.

The trailer starts off teasing the end of one of the stories of a franchise favorite. It was later revealed that the character is none other than Chris Redfield. However, we’ve yet to know whether it’s his story who’s about to conclude or will be Ethan’s, the protagonist from Resident Evil 7.

There are a lot of themes to take in during the trailer, and some stills even reveal the mansion from the first Resident Evil. All-in-all however, it feels like Capcom is going to dive into cultism when it comes to the next game, thus proving the early Resident Evil 8 rumors.

Another good news is that the series is going to stick to the survival horror gameplay mechanics explore in Resident Evil 7, so they shouldn’t expect the action-heavy gameplay of Resident Evil 5 and 6.

Lastly, zombies or the undead are going to return in the game in some form. Even the ominous Umbrella Corporation is a part of the upcoming game as well.

Resident Evil 8 is going to be an exciting title, and fans are surely eager to see more details about the upcoming game. Since it will launch next year, there’s a good chance that we could be seeing more of the game in the following months.
