Suicide Squad is set to return on August 6, 2021. The film director revealed characters who will and will not reprise their role.

Upon its release in 2016, Suicide Squad will surely please DC comics and films devotees. The film will hit the big screens with the potential to reshape the wavering DC Extended Universe.

Nevertheless, critics’ opinions were reeks of disappointments. Apparently, the movie offered a few moments of levity and humor. However, it was not as much impiousness and joyful insanity as one would expect based on the concept and marketing campaign.

Overall, Suicide Squad was deemed as another superhero film housing too many characters. Some of them are over-written, some are under-written, and few of them compelling. Also, the plot only existed to serve itself.

Suicide Squad returns with new director

Now, Suicide Squad is set to return to fix its shortcomings from the previous instalment. Since Guardians of the Galaxy‘s James Gunn is taking over from Ayer as director, there’s reason to be hopeful for the sequel. Suicide Squad, as it is officially called, is one of the most anticipated movies in 2021.

James Gunn also revealed that fans would likely get a first glimpse at footage from the DCEU film this year. As for the director, this is a way to make it up to fans who will miss out on content planned for event this year  such as San Diego Comic-con.

Gunn tweeted,

“It’s the right thing to do, but I’m still sad to hear about SDCC being cancelled this year. I’ll miss all of you. We as creators, studios, and publishers will have to find ways to make it up to you the fans in other ways.”

Who will return

Harley Quinn and her mischievous bunch of supervillains are making a comeback but this time with an altered ensemble. Jared Leto’s The Joker is noticeably absent, as is Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.

Will Smith isn’t also reprising his role Deadshot due to scheduling conflicts. Despite the departure of many of the members of the original team, some familiar faces will return in the Suicide Squad. The original misfits remaining include Rick Flagg and Captain Boomerang.

Release Date

Suicide Squad is due for release on August 6, 2021. In case fans are worried about the pandemic, James Gunn assured that the film’s release date will not be affected by the coronavirus outbreak. He said that everything is on schedule and further added,

“Right now there’s no reason for the release date to move.”

It’s the right thing to do, but I’m still sad to hear about #SDCC being cancelled this year. I’ll miss all of you. We as creators, studios, and publishers will have to find ways to make it up to you the fans in other ways. ❤
