Both Riot Games and its new players are still adjusting to the Valorant global launch. Accordingly, there are still some relevant gameplay mechanics that didn’t make it to the June 2 release.

One thing that many players have noted in Valorant, is the lack of rewards for those who opt not to avail the premium version of the game’s Battlepass.

As Dexerto puts it, there’s a “plethora of Valorant cosmetics available to purchase,” but it lacks the “prestige of grinding.” Nevertheless, this is about to change, as one Riot Games dev revealed.

Valorant lacking in the reward system

As the media outlet emphasized, everything can be purchased on Valorantand those players who won’t opt for a premium version will see a big gap in rewards.

One dismayed player took it to Reddit to air out its concern on Valorant‘s current reward system. Per his Reddit thread, he argued that:

“AS IT STANDS, YOU CAN ACQUIRE EVERYTHING IN VALORANT IF YOU’RE WILLING TO PAY FOR IT – THERE’S NOTHING TO GRIND FOR THAT ISN’T ALREADY PURCHASABLE WHICH MEANS THERE SIMPLY ISN’T ANYTHING REWARDING FOR SKILL OR TIME SPENT. THIS IS A PROBLEM ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU CONSIDER THAT THE RANKING SYSTEM DOESN’T REWARD SKILL OR TIME SPENT EITHER (IF THEY CONTINUE WITH THEIR PLAN OF DYNAMIC QUEUE AND WIN/LOSS MARGIN COUNTING FOR MMR SWINGS).”

The Redditor, who goes by the username 19Dan81, further expressed that there should be some features that will only be made accessible to those who are dedicated grinders. Basically, Riot should provide rewards to the players for spending valued time in-game.

He then points out other game titles such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Call of Duty for comparison. With CS: GO, he mentions the game’s discreet but very fulfilling badge system.

The CoD franchise, on the other hand, is quite noted for providing its players with massive rewards, by just simply logging in.

Operators, guns, and other items are given away, equivalent to the number of log-in streaks that players have. In fact, in Call of Duty: Mobileon the 24th day that players log in this season, they get Nomad as a free operator.

Valorant is a clever tactical hero shooter that’s plenty deep, and a lot of fun to master.

Devs respond, revealing an upcoming system update

Riot Games developers were quick to respond to Redditor 19Dan81’s post, with a software engineer, that goes by the handle name of tehleach, first thanking him for the feedback.

The dev further revealed that there are “a few different systems in mind to provide mastery/time investment expression” in Riot’s 5v5 tactical fps game. However, these supposed systems were not able to make to the launch.

So does that mean it’ll be part of a possible upcoming update? Most probably, but the dev opted out on revealing further details, emphasizing “can’t go into specifics.”

This reply earned massive positive feedback from its fanbase community. Many non-premium Valorant players are now hopeful that they will be provided with rewards equivalent to their dedication to the game.
